So it's been a while since I've actually posted some content anywhere aside from SCW. A lot of this has to do with my drinking habits, promiscuity and, in the last couple of weeks, a video game involving lightsabers and lightning shooting out of fingertips. If I was truly being honest with myself here, it's all about habit. The holidays stopped my constant writing habits whether I liked it or not, and after about 3 weeks of not writing much I continued the habit of...not writing that much. I'm a creature of habit constantly at war with myself to break habits such as laziness and cheese-product. So, here I sit, Silversun Pickups blaring, lights off, cigarette in hand and fully focused on the connecting fingers to keys in a coherent succession. Today I bring you something I completed over a month ago; my magnetized Ghost Ark (and how I gave up on the whole idea.) More after the break.

If you've been living under a rock for the last year you may not of heard of SOPA and related intentions by the government to decide what can and what cannot be available to the world wide web. With clever names like "The Fight Against Online Piracy" and "Internet Equality" the gov't has managed to confuse the masses into thinking these are well-intentioned documents for our own good; not so much. Please do the research and find out what it's all about and make an informed decision yourself, though I feel it's quite obvious. Other organizations seem to feel the same including Google and Wikipedia who are staging blackouts today along with countless other websites, blogs, forums, etc. Here at TLA we take our freedom to post whatever we like whenever we like and do so responsibly...kind of. In any case, starting at 9am CST TLA will be blacking out for a 24 hour period today into tomorrow. If you're wanting to voice your opinion on the matter I suggest you head over to Google.com and clicking on their logo.

Rules: Necron FAQ Is Out (Finally)

Well it's about damn time, right? Lantz here and I'm very pleased to announce that Necrons finally have their FAQ. And unlike the GK fiasco of 2011, almost every question was answered. A lot of cleanup happened and even a few shocking developments. So, enough with this intro, let's just get on with it already! It's been a busy/full year for me for the hobby, and I didn't fully realize this until I actually put some thought into it. With the AdMech fandex taking up more than half of the year and Necrons coming out towards the end, I've been swamped, but very delighted. I'm looking forward to 2012 and all it will bring. Lantz here. Some of you may be asking, what happened to all the hobby talk on TLA? That's a fair question. With the AdMech set to the side for now (a project that's half hobby and half fandex creation,) hobby-related posts have dwindled. For those of you that come to my humble abode for such posts I apologize that you're not seeing what you want as of late, but I assure you there are a few conversions coming along that I'll be posting about in the near future. Until then, the Necrons are my muse as of late and learning how they work and what models I want to purchase is my current focus. Every week for a month or so now I've been posting battle reports with the Necrons, but this time around I wanted to take a week off and have an enjoyable game. Lantz and Eric here! We're going to be attempting something a little unorthodox; a collaborative battle report. This is our first attempt at such a thing so bare with us while we work out the kinks. This week we wanted to try some Necron on IG action. 1500pts was our mark for this game. We had to use our secondary table as the main table was in use by the other members of our gaming group, the only downside is that it's a 4x4 instead of the standard 4x6, which gave Necrons and their mid-range shooting expertise the advantage. The Moral Of This Tale; Watch Your...Well, You Get It.

It's no secret that when playing against a Deep Striking army, more specifically Drop Pod armies, you should always be prepared to take a shot or seventeen up the rear. However, I feel like this isn't taken as seriously as it should at times. Everyone at our table took Deep Striking possibilities seriously, of course; we're just cool like that, but the overall thought process that goes into Deep Striking is typically incorrect from what I've gathered over the years. It's not about denying your opponent the chance to Deep Strike, it's about denying them the confidence to do so. Placement down the board is just as important as placement of units up the board when it comes to fighting against a Deep Strike army. You'll see what I mean in the pages to come.

A BatRep About Necrons? Oh No; This Is The Story Of Vulkan The Un-Woundable...

With the holidays and whatnot, I only managed to get in one game with the Necrons this week. It was a large game, though, which I do enjoy most of the time. This week I wanted to try out a list that I made a few weeks ago that looked good on paper, but I wasn't really sure how it would perform. The list I made had a single purpose; anti-horde. While we don't see much horde in 5th with vehicles being the end-all be-all solution to pretty much everything, the option to make a list is in the pages of the new Necron codex and I wanted to give it a go. Unfortunately I probably ended up losing some friends this week... More after the jump.

A quick shout out, today. And I actually meant to post this earlier in the week when I saw it; sadly I'm easily distracted by shiny objects and have had little to no sleep this month. Anywho, R3con over at Mi40k has posted about his buddy's Eldar army being stolen right out of his car. The above picture may or may not be the perpetrator and may or may not be a Google image. Who knows... So spread the word, if you spot his Eldar (info found here) be sure to jump over and contact the victim so he may be reunited with his time, work and effort in the form of space elves again.

PS, I find it ironic his occupation is Insurance. Not a fun situation, of course, but I giggled.

Conversion: Imperial Jetbikes Kitbash

Welcome back my fellow self-repairing brethren and sister..en? Growing up in an overly religious household, I grew to loathe Sundays. What was to be the weekend for all of my friends was another day of sitting quietly in a large room full of equally-bored children at a desk with nothing to do but count how many little hole thingies there were in the ceiling tiles, praying to god (pun intended) that the day would end. If organized religion is your thing; more power to you and I mean no offense, it's just not my bag. Getting back on point, Sundays used to be the bane of my week. Now that I'm in my twenties and ~~capable of~~ allowed to make my own decisions, things are much more enjoyable and Sundays are one of the best days of the week. Why? It's 40k day! This week I went into a team-game scenario with the new Necron dex, something I have yet to do since my first game, and it was quite fun. This game, more than any, I learned a lot about the balance of the Necrons when constructing a list, but I'll go over that in full detail after the jump.

Third Game With The Necrons

Hello readers! This week I managed to get in two games with the Necrons and for this game I attended KHops' abode. KHops is somewhat new to the 40k scene (clarification as he was not happy with this statement; KHops is not a noob,) and so his basement hasn't been overtaken by ridiculous amounts of plastic like Eric's has. What does this mean? It means no proxying for me. It means that the following list should not be scrutinized for its poor make-up as I'm just working with what I've got, here...okay, feel free to scrutinize anyway... Having around 1850pts in Necrons before the new dex, I found myself scrambling to get to 1500pts with the lowered points cost of, well...everything. A full breakdown after the jump.

Second Game With The Necrons

Hello and welcome back. Last time I talked about my first game with the new Necron codex and how it went quite well. After mulling over the book in an obsessive fashion after that game it became apparent to me that I cheated in a few ways and thought I'd researched enough through the book for it to never happen again. Well, it did, but more on that later. For now I'll explain the picture above; the list I was trying to build for a tiny game this week was an AV13 wall at 1000pts. First Game With The Necrons

If you haven't checked out my codex review over at MWC for the Necrons, I'll be continuing it all week long. And as someone with a horrible memory, I'll say that if you want to memorize a codex; write a review on it. It's not just helping the community, it's helping me, too. Anywho, tonight I played my first game with the Necron's new rules and it's...umm, powerful. We ended up playing 3 vs 2 with me playing 2000 and everyone else playing 1000. My team was Necrons and IG fighting Dark Angels, CSM Nurgle and Vulcan SM. With 1000pts per player other than myself there wasn't a lot of transports out and while I only needed to bring 2 troops in my list I thought it was fair for me to bring 4 since I was taking more points than everyone else. So let's get to the breakdown.

Review: Ultramarines Movie

Yes, I know. I'm extremely late on the whole Ultramarines movie viewing. Much to my chagrin, I was put-off on taking the time to see it as friends informed me the animation was almost painful to watch. While other reviews I had read made smaller mention of this imperfection, the overall assessment of the movie seemed to be an acclaimed one, critically or otherwise. After almost a year since the movie has come out, I've found a few things in the movie I don't feel others have picked up on. More after the break.

In its current form, the Caminus-Priest unit is pretty overpowered (this will be corrected in the next version coming out soon) and I see a lot of you playtesters using these guys a lot. Hello, welcome and my apologize from any involuntary puking that may have been a result of the picture above. The conversion train is a rollin', still, and this week I've got those rambunctious little duders that worship and preach the Omnissiah's name; Machine Cultists. If there's any model in the fandex that took far too long to find exactly what I had in mind, it's these guys. After a couple of months of searching for a set of models that captured just what I wanted for this unit, I finally came across the Menoth Choir set from Privateer Press' Warmachine and fell in love. These guys have just enough sci-fi going on, while also remaining very old-school that they were perfect for my Machine Cultists. Below is the conversion from Menoth to AdMech.

Conversion: Leman Russ Rapier

Holy crap it's been a long while since I've posted any work. That's mostly because I, well, haven't done any work. Also, for the few that managed to keep up, our URL has finally been changed. The downside? The transition didn't work as I'd hoped and I'm constantly getting emails asking where the hell we went. Traffic took a massive decline from ~1000 views a week to ~100 a week. So if you're one of the few that's managed to find us, again, spread the word about our URL change; we're not dead. Moving along, today our weekly game of 40k got canceled due to Eric feeling under the weather, so I actually managed to get some model-work done. This time around it was finally time to finish up all of the Leman Russ variants the fandex has to offer ending with the Rapier. So without further adieu:

My First Tourney: Post-Game

If My Opponents Looked Like This It Would Have Been A Better Day...

So my first tourney has come and gone and I have to admit it wasn't that bad. I went in expecting last place and beat my own assumption in a pretty big way. My opponents ranged from WAAC to "quirky" to laid back to really cool. As a recap from my first post, this tournament had an 842 point cap on 4x4 tables with each table having its own "theme" that changed up the rules from crazy stuff to boring as hell. As an example there was an ice-planet table where you could slip and slide on in the movement phase. I don't know the details on that one as I wasn't lucky enough to play on it, but Eric can probably post a comment on it below. Anywho, I'm rambling, so let's get to it! Hello again. Posts have been scarce lately, and for that I apologize. It's summer time, and with that comes busy schedules of pool parties, outdoor recreation, boating, BBQs and puking your guts out from food poisoning via said BBQs. With all of this going on, I've barely had time to work on anything tabletop related and I'm currently down to one game of 40k a week. Sad, I know. I'm chalking this all up to being busy, but I'll be honest, a fair portion is from being easily distracted by shiny things. Sorry for the lack of posting this week; I've been on vacation and just recently returned, trying to catch back up on what I've missed in and out of the realm of 40k. Today's post is just a quick Shout Out, and mostly a thank you to Inquisitor Lord Aki. Recently he started up a give-away, though a way to test some marketing concepts, the generosity is still present. Shout Out: Señor Darrel

Hello and welcome back! Today's post will be another picture dump of sorts, with a Shout Out to my buddy Señor Darrel. If you remember my light-bright Monolith project from almost exactly a year ago, this project will look a tad familiar. This thing, thanks to Necron's rules becoming worse and worse as more 5th Edition codices come out, has been collecting dust in the mean time. It was only when Señor Darrel offered to paint it up in exchange for using it in a local tourney did this thing come off the shelf. After the amazing painting job I slapped on some Quickshade and anti-shine varnish, put all the glowy tubes back in and voila! Now, even with all of the AdMech progress, this thing is easily in my top three favorite projects now that it's completed. Below are the showings-off of Darrel's painting expertise, enjoy!

More Game Time With The AdMech

Well, I hit a milestone on Monday. It started with a couple of my gaming buddies wanting to go up to our FLGS to play some 1850 games in preparation for their tournament. I've never actually played a game of 40k in public before; you can chalk it up to my less than average playing skills, inability to retain rule-knowledge or never having painted models, but the fact of the matter is I've avoided tournaments and public play as a general rule. However, at this point in my gaming carrier I've developed a functioning rulebook for the AdMech, I have actual painted models; and while my memory problems still haven't changed, two out of three ain't too shabby. Conversion: Luceo Rollers

Yeah, Pretty Much...

This time around I've got a small look into one of the new units coming out in the next version of the fandex; Luceo Rollers. These little guys are essentially scrapped-together drones that carry an explosive around with them. To accomplish this I purchased some models from Black Cat Bases which I reviewed over at MWC this week. This is a pretty simple conversion, but works in a basing strategy that turned out well. I must say finding appropriate models for this unit has been quite the task, but after Matt over at MWC sending me a link about a month ago to Blight Wheel Miniatures I had finally found them. Welcome back. This week I've got a conversion that I really enjoyed and will be the envy of all of my small-weaponed friends; the Leman Russ Vladd. This thing comes equipped with a Conversion Beamer, and while there's a model for this weapon in the Codex: Space Marines, I always felt the only S10 weapon in the dex was less than impressive model-wise. For my Conversion Beamer I wanted something that really stood out against all other weapons and gave a clear indication as to how small my manhood really is, err. Anyway. Aaaand welcome back. I'll start this conversion post by saying I normally will do conversions to save money. If you look back you'll find numerous examples of this. Unfortunately, I can be stubborn. When an idea hits me for a model and I really want it to happen, I'll make it happen. Even if the costs to see it through are a bit steep (see Wraith Lord.) Another unfortunate circumstance for my wallet is the AdMech as a whole. While the first year of writing the fandex saved me hundreds on purchasing literally nothing in the way of models; now that it's nearing completion I'm in the mode of purchasing models for it. The thing with the fandex is, there are specific units I created within it that I had a vivid vision for, and thus want it to look exactly right. The Cult Abomination is one of those units, and getting what I wanted to create my original vision took the last bit of my spare money for the month. Worth it? Let's find out.

The conversions keep coming for this month. After an especially disappointing rapture on the 21st, I needed a pick-me-up. No earthquakes, no flying people and no religious nuts admitting stupidity. All around disappointment. So I decided to finish up the Leman Russ Burrower even though I'm still waiting (almost 2 months) for the other weapon variants (keep a look out on MWC for that review...it'll be a doozy.) This project took a crap-load of trial and error, but I was diligent on taking pictures almost every step of the way. So join me after the break on this tiring process and its inevitable completion. That's right, The Magnet Pro is no more! Well, I'm still here, but the blog is forever changed. A few months back my gaming buddy Eric over at The Midnight Shift and I decided we should (and should have from the start) merge our blogs together to form a super-blog of sorts. After much planning, the day has finally come! Now you may be asking what happens to all of the links out there for themagnetpro.blogspot.com? Well, Eric is quite the wiz at these internet thingies lately and while our new URL is twinlinkedawesome.blogspot.com, whenever you visit this URL you'll get redirected to themagnetpro.blogspot.com. Our name has changed, URL is staying the same for everyone's convenience. Go ahead, try it out. And again. And again. It's quite fun.

As for the next few days we'll be tweaking both URLs to get things looking spiffy for all of you. Worry not, we have some content in the form of posts ready to roll for this week as well, so stay tuned for that.

Conversion: Tech-Priest Transmechanic Take Two

That was a lotta' T's...Anywho, I'd like to thank Kane of Tales from the Maelstrom for the new 40k OSR link image to the right. If you haven't seen his work I suggest you go check it out. And with that, if you haven't checked out Porky's 40k OSR you need to go do that as well (by clicking the mentioned, convenient little button to the right,) to see some of the newest work out there.

Speaking of work, we all have some conversions we're not 100% happy with. Either something is missing, there's too much of something else or we want to just start all over again. If you can recognize the formers than you are fortunate enough to avoid the latter. I've ran across this a few times during the AdMech development, and while I've forgotten to take pictures of my changes before priming occurred, this one I did not. If you remember my post on my Transmechanic, this is the model I've taken a second wack at. You see, even with the special Servo-Harness he has going, I still felt he looked too similar to the Magos. To change this up I decided to change up the harness a bit and add in a Staff of Office. Pics after the break.

I haven't been posting much about the fandex lately, but that's certainly not due to its evolution not taking on a force of the gods. In the last few months I've been working diligently on the rules for the dex, and only the rules to help get the next version pushed out as fast as possible. However, the only reason I've been able to focus 100% on the rules is thanks to a few individuals who have granted me with their presence in the dex as the official fluff writers after responding to a post I had made on MWC. After several entries, I read over all the sample fluff that was submitted and chose four people truly fit for the job. So, it seems thanks to Mr. Lemon the completion of my AdMech army actually seems feasible. You see, I hate painting. I mega-loath it. If I had a choice between staying awake for 24 hours with my only source of entertainment being a ball of yarn or painting for 10 minutes, I would seriously debate the choice. Mr. Lemon being the superb painter he is (dude, make a friggin' blog!) offered up his painting services in exchange for some Space Marine models I no longer wanted. After he acquired what he wanted, out of the kindness of his heart and just for the fun of it (and for some Tomb Kings I promised him /wink) he's continuing on in painting the AdMech so I don't have to (and so they don't look awful.) Overcompensating much?

Well, hey there! The conversions for the AdMech are plentiful, seeing as almost nothing is standardized within the fandex. I figured that with the Leman Russ being the little-to-convert rock of the fandex as it's in the IG codex, conversion work would be quite simple... And then my imagination slid in; the ever-present devil on my shoulder whispering sweet nothings of plasticard, casting and greenstuff. Because of this, the five variants of the Leman Russ took more work than I had original anticipated. But before I get into each variant available in the dex and how I created them in model-form, this post will be a quick rundown of what universal work will be done for all five types of the Leman Russ. So much to post about these days... With the fandex going, the Necrons coming out soon and all of this conversion work, I've been strolling the streets of Busytown as of late. Speaking of the fandex, I'd like to thank Porky's Expanse! and Miniature Wargame Conversions for their posts on it. I had seen a laps in downloads of the new version, which I'm having a hard time explaining since I've gotten few complaints since its release last month. Welcome back. So many conversions going on right now, it's hard to keep up with what to post. In this post I have another treat for you AdMech players out there. If you haven't read my review over at MWC on Pig Iron's Wardroids, I suggest you read that first as this post will strictly be covering my conversions. The Robot Maniple in the fandex has many different options, and in the next version of the fandex these options will grow, yet be more organized at the same time. Either way, when constructing your Robot force, there's many weapons to choose from. The last game I played I chose to go with a Missile Launcher, Autocannon and Lascannon in a maniple of three Robots and this seemed to work out well, so that's how I'm creating the models. The waves of Necron rumors are starting to becoming overwhelming as of late, which solidifies what is my belief that they're indeed next in line. It wasn't until today that I saw something post-worthy as it seems legit as far as what rules are explained, but a lot of these rumors seem to contradict others that I've heard very recently. Conversion: Kthulo

A while back some friends and I started up a game called Gamma World. For those of you who don't know what it is or don't know that the bright purple letters indicate you can click on the words for a link; Gamma World is similar to Dungeons and Dragons in that it follows the same format of stat lines, dice rolling, etc. That's where the similarities end and the nonsense begins. Rather than being placed in an olde world fantasy setting, Gamma World takes place in current-time where every parallel universe has clashed with one another to form a central post-apocalyptic world full of ant-men, frogs made of hotdogs, donkey-rabbits and farmland that talks to you with a foreign accent as you pass on by. So how does this relate to a conversion? More after the break.

Conversion: Servitors and Techmarine

Just a quick show-off of some quick work I did last week and just haven't had the time to post up. This conversion is for my unit of Servitors as well as a Techmarine. In the AdMech fandex I have each Servitor equipped with a lasgun as well as allowing certain upgrades from the lasgun. In the same respect, the Techmarines-in-training with the AdMech do not have bolters and instead have lasguns. Unfortunately GW and I don't see eye-to-eye on what the Servitors and Techmarines deserve, so a conversion was in order. More after the break.

I'm still in the process of moving. It's taking a while seeing as I decided to keep everything I've collected since the age of...well, five. This time however, I'm putting a stop to this as I seem to move every year or less because of one thing or another. This means filtering through every single box and throwing away what I don't need. Fortunately for me, this process caused me to stumble upon all of the Gundam, Zoid and Zerg models I had as a child. This is quite the jackpot here and I know there's more than just this. Bits galore has been bestowed upon me, which should help in my future conversions. It just goes to show you, that organization and purging of unneeded things has more benefits than just having less to move next time around.

Short Leave of Absence

Tuesday morning my best friend, roommate and more or less my father-figure and hero passed away. I'm currently at a loss of words and a loss of sobriety (thank you spell check,) so I'm not sure how to go about all the mushy stuff. What I will leave you all with is a notice, that while I'm dealing with my loss all the while finding a new place to live I'll be absent from the 40k world for a tad. I don't expect to be gone very long, but when life throws things at you, you have to take it all head-on.

Praetorians Complete!

After purchasing my first models for the AdMech in the mail a little over two weeks ago, I was very eager to get some of them finished ASAP. While the construction and conversions were quite simple, if the painting had been left up to me, you would be seeing this post months from now. Thankfully, my buddy Mr. Lemon offered to paint my first Praetorian troop for my birthday. Needless to say, I shoved all my paints, brushes and Praetorians at him and ran away quickly. A week later I got them back, beautifully painted. Mr. Lemon is very quick and very talented with painting. After adding the basing and some Quickshade, they are complete. More pics after the break.

Shout Out: Heroes of Armageddon Project

Busy busy busy! For those of you who didn't know, live under a rock or you're that one last person who doesn't follow MWC; last week I was chosen by Matt (the guy running the show,) to be one of his new writers. What does this mean for The Magnet Pro? Hopefully it means pushing out twice as many posts as before, only time will tell. As for right now, Matt at MWC has gathered a small team of writers with all manner of strengths in the tabletop world and I'm very excited for the readers to see some of the ideas we have going. But enough about me, let's transition to another group of writers that are about to be very busy.

The old Storm Wardens crew is back at it, and in a big way. Dave Taylor Miniatures revealed today that they will be creating a similar project for Doctors Without Borders, only this time the scale of things will be epic. Instead of one army, this time around there will be four teams working on four, count them--four, 3,000 point armies all based off of the Third War of Armageddon. Donation placements are already set up and ready for the raffle to win one of these armies (I assume they won't all be going to one person.) Just like last time, I would expect to see many prizes involved for runner-ups as well. Keep an eye on this project's epicness and get those donations in for your chance to win!

Rules: Walking Transport

I Like To Think My Walking Transports Are A Little Less Lame Than This

There has been some questions that have come up, in my games and for you playtesters out there, as to the specifics on how the Walking Transport Special Rule in the AdMech FanDex functions. Fear not! I'm here to spell it all out for you with specific scenarios and explanations. First, the actual rule states, "Any model with the Walking Transport Special Rule uses the same movement and shooting rules for walkers (see pages 72-73 of the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook.) This also applies to any passengers firing weapons from the transport. All other normal vehicle rules apply."

In reality I have been busting my hump trying to get my minis fighting fit for a game tournament at the end of the month. So far I have all of my Plague Marines ( pictures below ) done and am about halfway done with my Khorne Berserkers. This leaves me with a Rhino, 2 Oblits and a Deamon Prince..

Rumors: Necrons Looking Solidified

Never, that I can remember, have I ever received information from another source and had my immediate response to it be, "Golly-gee wilickers, I have to get home right now and blog about this!" Today is the day that cherry has been popped, and I feel like a dirty dirty hipster. Anyway, about an hour ago I was patrolling my FLGS for another Enginseer, ending up disappointed and purchasing a Leman Russ to make myself feel pretty. After exchanging money with the store owner, we'll call him Bill, we began to break into a discussion about Grey Knights. I mentioned that I was debating starting them as my third army, but decided against it since Necrons are rumored to be out soon. I also mentioned my skepticism about Tau, Eldar or Sisters coming out before my guys in green to which he replied with a slow and steady head-shake that brought on an onslaught of information that hadn't grazed my ears...

The blogs that I follow often follow a similar theme. It's not hard to guess what it is; conversions. The hands on work. I couldn't care less (unless extreme anger and fueled hatred count as caring) for painting. And rules talk is a fickle thing for me, typically depending on my mood. Rumors are spotty as well. I'm a man of numbers and "supposed-facts" aren't always my cup of tea. However, conversions are the meat of the hobby for me. It's why I wake up to the fresh smell of plasticard and green stuff in the morning. I'm always on the lookout for conversion artists out there, and blogger is by far the best way to go about it. Even more important to me than conversion work are conversion tutorials; showing the steps you took to accomplish your goal. The spread of knowledge and all of that jazz. Conversion: Gant and Praetorians

No shortage of things to talk about this week; two posts in one day is madness 'round these parts. Reading my previous post, you should get an idea of what I think of the models I've purchased, so I won't go into any more of that nonsense. This post is what I've done to turn the Stalker Tank into a Gant and HTTP-01s into Praetorians. The conversions were far from difficult, not needing very many modifications since, in my humble opinion, Micro Art Studios had the Adeptus Mechanicus in mind when creating this group. Anywho, it's been a long while since I've ran through a conversion, with the fandex keeping most of my attention for the last year, but I'm back into the modeling game again. First I'd like to note that putting the word "suspenseful" into an image search engine results in some pretty nonsensical results. The above image was one of maybe five that actually made sense among the pictures of Judge Judy and children with awkward facial expressions.

Moving along; my tabletop friend Mr. Lemon is quite the creator. While I enjoy the creation of new codices, he enjoys the creation of campaigns and overall rules that create a "world" to play in. Having a history in DMing for DnD is probably where this all stems from. Thankfully, a long while ago he decided to join our gaming group in the universe of 40k and down the road began to manipulate and bend the rules of the game to his will. We've played numerous campaigns that he has created or modified and all have been well constructed and very entertaining. More after the break.

She's So Damn Attractive When She's Not Coked Out

The rumor train is always a-chuggin' on tabletop forums. Forever pressing forward fueled by the smiles and tears of those who buy a ticket aboard. Today is one of those days that the rumor train's engine is lashing heat and flame from an overabundance of my leaking face. While I'm not much of a forum guy, I did happen across this post by stinger989; the same dweller that brought some factual GK rumors a few months back. So while he has a history of not being a dirty dirty liar, I'm trying my damnedest to picture this guy in a Snidely Whiplash getup. For those of you without access to Warseer from work or school (like myself,) here's the short of what the rumor is for Necrons. There was a printing problem with the Necron codex, so it is being pushed back and Tau is taking it's slot in Q4 of 2011. Again, I'm really hoping this isn't true. The Necrons have gone without a new dex for years, and at this point they're the oldest dex out there for 5th Edition. You disgusting Tau lovers can feel free to tell me the 4th Edition dex was more of a band-aid than a real codex; to that I will retort with a well constructed "You're still somewhat-competitive and shut up, stupid-head."

So what do you all think? Any other 'cron lovers just have their heart ache a smidgen?

New FanDex On The Horizon

I'll make something perfectly clear at the beginning of this post before I get an inbox full of crudely constructed paragraphs questioning my being well endowed; the AdMech FanDex is not going on the shelf. I love my dex so far, but it's far from completion and out of every tabletop project I have going, it's the one that gets the most attention. The shear amount of money I just spent on models is more than enough to keep me involved in the dex, with or without my fanboy craving for them. With that said, I am a fan of writing and most of all editing. There are few things I'm good at in this world, editing is one of them. The day I find an editing job is the day I'll truly be happy. I'm getting off track here, my point is with the AdMech FanDex needing less and less work done to it, I find myself a little more than bored in the off hours of my day. I'll be quite busy once my lot of AdMech models come in, but until then I've needed a writing-refuge. More after the break.

Adeptus Mechanicus Models Purchased!

It's been a long time since I've purchased anything tabletop worthy for 40k. This is in part to the fact that the only official 40k army I have these days is Necrons, and with a 5th Edition codex rumored to be coming out later this year, it's hard to justify making purchases for them when smexy new plastic kits are oft coupled with a new dex. The other and more dominating reason I've gone without tabletop purchases is the AdMech FanDex. Seriously, if you ever want to spend zero dollars and still be involved in tabletop; write a fandex. It takes months or even years and the amount of time and energy it takes to create one will leave you without any thought of modeling. With the FanDex cleaning up nicely as of late, I found it's that time in the process to start completing the picture for myself. IE; create the models I've created rules for, and that's exactly what I've done this morning. Having a lot saved up for this day, I'm excited to present my ideal models for the dex. 1250 Tourney Preperation

So Chaos Darrell and I are going to be throwing our hats in the ring at the FLGS

This is a team tourney with individual FOCs. Darrell is running a Chaos Deamons list, primarily Khorne with a Slanesh prince and a couple of flamers for flavor. I will try to get a full list w/his blessing ASAP. I have decided to throw in with my Plague Marines. Our MO will be me dancing around the board like a ninny trying not to get killed while we wait for his heavy hitters to deepstrike in to do the deed.

At first my list looked like this

While it may look impressive on paper this list wasnt really living up to my expectations. I just can't get those terminators to pay off. We have played Ice Station Lemon and Lantz from the The Magnet Pro several test games and each time they were either stopped well before they got where they needed to be or, if they did happen to get out, they couldn't deliver on bringing the pain. I think the main issue is that I am trying to make them a Jack of All Trades unit and they just dont have the manpower (or the physical models) to pull it off. I tried another list with a deamon prince and an extra Oblit that looked like this:

While the additional mobility that is granted by the DP is very welcome I am still sinkning a TON of points into the Termie group and their transport ( who is named Banjo BTW) and not getting the performance out of them that I want. On top of that, we are having to hold back a unit of Plage marines to keep points secure. Blood thisters are very good assault troops but arent too hot at point holding. Especially since you have to deepstrike them in all the time.

Sooooo I have an army that is very good at staying alive and killing things but it's not great at holding points which is something that has become very important lately. On top of it there is the aforementioned bucket of points that isnt doing anything. This has drawn me to make the following list:

Deamon Prince

- Mark of Nurgle
- Nurgle's Rot
- Wings

7 Plague marines
- Champion w/power sword
- 2 meltas
- Rhino w/extra armor

7 Plague marines
- Champion w/power sword

I think this will be a much more effective list. I've got 4 troops now instead of 2 including one that I can just dig in and leave on a point. Also, Berzerkers are much better suited to kill people rather than the group of terminators. I was running the Oblits in a group but I think I am going to split them out as well. I know thats giving my opponent more kill points but I think its worth it to make sure that I actually get Oblits on the table faster.

The real downside to all this is that, while I do have all of the models needed to run this list, I don't have all of them painted/based. There is going to be a soft score portion of this tourney as well and I would hate to be the reason that we didn't score high enough to place. Luckily I have about 2 months to get prepared. AdMech FanDex:Base Sizes

As you all know, the new version of the AdMech is out. And if you didn't know that then you may want to come out of the living area known as a rock and click on the following link and download the thing! With the new version out I am ecstatic to report you all love it. Oddly, I have yet to hear anything bad about the new version, as bittersweet as that may be (if I don't hear bad news, I don't have much to work on.) There has been mention of some confusion on what the base sizes of models should be for gameplay purposes. While descriptions in my fandex are very broad so as to not restrict what people wish to make their models as, I do agree there is a need for some guidelines on the base sizes of the models in order for gameplay to work correctly. Actual Fanbase Attractiveness May Vary

Hello, again. As we're approaching the final few days before v2.0 of the AdMech FanDex, I wanted to take a few minutes to describe some of what you all will be seeing. As of today, the dex is ready to roll, most everything has been finalized and I should be posting the new version on the 28th. The only reason for the delay is I'd like to get in one more day of playtesting before launch. So since things are pretty concrete at this point, I'm going to delve into what new units are awaiting everyone in a couple of days. More after the jump.

I'm a triple threat now. I play Warhammer, WarMachine AND D&D

So it shouldn't be a huge surprise that I fell into this brand of escapism as well and where there are tabletops there are minis and where there are minis there are paintin's to be had. Lets take a look shall we?

This is Lowgrey Stormborn, born Thunk Flintstrike a level 3 Gnome Barbarian. He's been hit by lightning and thinks he is the son of Kord the god of thunder and seas. He is also known as Wolfhelm, Wyrmrider, Dragon Slayer and Orc-bane.

To make him I took a Dwarf Berserker model from the Mage Knight and then took a hammer head from some random Orc of the same model line and glued em together and slapped some paint on him. He took me about 2 gaming sessions w/a little time after for small detail work. Army Painter: Quickshade did the rest.

Psst... hey over here

Ok I think I have maybe 5 to 10 minutes before a dog eats something that it shouldn't and I have to save its life, stop the cat from destroying something valuable or get something up high for my wife so I can move it to another location up high that she can't reach.

The story thus far

While I have been away due to life I haven't forgotten my duties to the plastic crack. Here's whats been going on ( in chronological order as best as I can remember it)

1) Ice Station Lemon pointed out to me a nifty army variation from Imperial Armor 7: The Servants of Contagion
- I cheated a little bit and checked on scribd.com/Army Builder and found, what appeared to be, an interesting mix of 4th and 5th ed guard with a little Nurgle for flavor

2) Purchased the Protectorate of Menoth starter box, the Harbinger of Menoth and a Castigator
- I got it all for $75 bucks I couldn't turn that down

3) Chaos Darrell and I are going to join a 1250pt. team game over at the FLGS
- Nurgle-licious CSM and Chaos Deamons, together again for the very first time.

4) Found out that Army Builder really wasn't telling the truth about what I could take from that army list mentioned in #1 ( Mainly any of the special characters or vehicles )
- Well poop
